Indonesian Style Fried Tofu

See that golden blocks on the right top? It is called tofu and it's delicious!
Tofu is made of soya milk and therefore it's vegan, rich in protein, and cheap. However, it is quite difficult to cook it because it's natural flavour is plain. It has not so much taste, white pale color, and subtle smell.
I've had a lot of tofus in my life and as I remember, the tofus I had were great because of something else that came with them: the sauce, the coating wheat, or vegetables that were the ingredients of the dish besides the tofu itself. 
And oh, yes, they were deep fried. Everything tastes great when it's deep fried.
Being Dutch, limiting eating deep fried stuffs, and doesn't consume as much tofu as I do as an Indonesian, my husband never thinks of tofu as an appealing dish. So when he finally sees it that way, I am more than eager to share this recipe.

Ingredients

2 servings
  1. 1 pack tofu
  2. 1 chicken bullion
  3. Garlic powder
  4. Ground pepper
  5. Curcuma powder
  6. 2 teaspoons salty soya sauce
  7. 2 spoons olive oil
  8. 300 cc hot water
  9. 1 little bit of butter, to act as a crunchy maker agent 😉

Method

40 minutes
  1. Cut the tofu into small cubes. As small cubes your tofu will have more crunchy surfaces!
  2. Dissolve the chicken bullion into hot water. Add the garlic powder, ground pepper, curcuma powder, and salty soya sauce.
  3. In a bowl, put the tofu and the water mix. Let soak for about 15 minutes.
  4. Bring oil and butter into heat in a pan. Fry the tofu in medium heat.
  5. The secret of bringing the best taste of tofu? Keep it cooked in medium heat, take longer time to cook, and do a lot of stir! Enjoy the ultimate taste of non deep fried tofu with your favorite dish! On the picture I'm having it with some pad thai. It was sooooo good.
