Kerala Fish Curry

#cookingwithcoconut - This yummy Kerala fish curry cooked in coconut milk is simply to die for. It is also known as Meen Curry and is a very easy and a simple fish gravy. Here in this recipe I have used one of my favourite fish - Pomfret. It is one of the most popular item in a Kerala non-veg menu platter. Just relish it with plain steamed rice.

Ingredients

1-2 servings
  1. 1 pomfret fish, cut into 3 pieces
  2. 1 cup thick coconut milk
  3. 1/2 cup thin coconut milk
  4. 2 tablespoon coconut oil
  5. 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  6. 1 onion, sliced
  7. 1 tablespoon garlic, chopped
  8. 2-3 green chilies
  9. 1-2 sprig curry leaves
  10. 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  11. 1tablespoon red chilli powder
  12. 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  13. to taste salt
  14. 1 tomato, chopped
  15. 1-2 tablespoon coriander leaves, chopped

Method

20 minutes
  1. Heat oil in a pan and temper with mustard seeds. After it stops spluttering, add the garlic and saute till they changes colour.
  2. Add the onion, curry leaves and green chilies. Fry till the onions turns translucent.
  3. Then add all the dry spices and mix well.
  4. Add the tomatoes and fry till it is mashed.
  5. Add the thin coconut milk and the fish. Cover and simmer for 4-5 minutes.
  6. Lastly add the thick coconut milk and bring it to a boil. Switch off the flame and add the coriander leaves.
  7. Serve with plain steamed rice.
